2007 Pumpkin Fly

The CSS annual Pumpkin Fly, one of the final Man-on-Man Soaring events of the 2007 season, is fast approaching.  It will be held on October 20/21 in West Chester, Ohio at VOA Park

2003 Pumpkin Fly Results, Photos and Reviews

Great weather for the 2003 CSS Great Pumpkin Fly was held October 11th/12th at VOA Park.   The Saturday winner was Gordy Stahl of Louisville and Sunday's winner was Richard Burnoski of Bollingbrook, IL, both flying Pike Superiors.  Paul Siegel of Cincinnati took the high overall award flying an Icon Lite.  Click here to review the results in text format.


Just around the Corner

One-Design Sailaire Contest will be held on Sunday, September 21st at the CSS Gate of Heaven Field.  The contest  coordinator  is Sam Bach who plans to get things going about 10:00am 


The "Fall Round Up", which is OVSS #8 at the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana will be held on September 13/14 hosted by the LOFT and MIST clubs.  Sign up on the LOFT Web Site is available.  We will see who will be the 2003 OVSS Champion, which could be Karl Miller or Rich Burnoski.

2006 US F3J Team

2005 JR Aerotow

Paul's Super Cub at 9500'Paul Siegel piloted his Super Cub from Lunken with Steve Siebenaler as passenger and photographer, to Monticello, IL on June 4th to catch some action at this year's JR Aerotow.  This has become one of the "must attend" event for the R/C soaring calendar, hosted by Horizon Hobby.  Pilots from all parts of the country were in attendance.  Fellow CSS club member, Barry Andersen, was all smiles flying his recently completed KA-8, a very beautiful ship.   There were dozens of other nice sailplanes from 2 meters to 7 meters in wingspan.  Check out the photo gallery, which includes the Super Cub's landing approach at Piatt Co. 2004 OVSS Report

The 2004 OVSS contest season is complete and Rich Burnoski has repeated as Masters Champion and Glaco Lago is the 2004 Sportsman Class Champion.  Reviews and results of all contests include the CSS Memorial, the LOFT Bob Steele, the SOAR Fred Fredrickson and the MVSA Gateway Open.  And the LSF/AMA Soaring Nationals have Unlimited Scores posted too. 

In the Sportsman Class, Glaco Lago took home a brand new JR 9303 radio system, donated by JR Radios/Horizon Hobbies.  Rich Burnoski got to keep the "Remus Trophy" , but in additon, Rich also took home a JR 9303 radio system.  

Many thanks to JR Radios/Horizon Hobbies for their support of the OVSS contest circuit this year.  The OVSS Masters Season Champion will get to keep this traveling trophy until next year. 


SoCal Hand Launch

International Hand Launch Glider Festival in Poway, CA is a fantastic event for serious hand launch pilots.  The 2004 Champion is Phil Barnes, who wrote a great account of the contest.  Other reports by Oleg Golovidov, Joe Wurts and Jason Kansky are available, courtesy of Oleg.  Thanks Olgol!!!


USA F3J (Hand Tow)

Support the 2004 USA F3J Team!!!  This year the F3J World Championships in Red Deer, Alberta Canada.  Larry Jolly, Tom Kiesling and Joe Wurts along with team manager Jim McCarthy are representing the US.  Show your support, purchase a T-shirt available on the 2004 USA F3J Team website.  


Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you can't have some fun.  So have you flown lately?  Some dedicated members get some slope soaring at the Brookville Dam.  Here is a photo of Paul Siegel if full battle gear as he faces the chill of the wind in January.

Can you believe it?  Gordy Stahl (below) of Louisville wins in Lexington at the Bluegrass Soaring Society's 2003 Mid-Am contest- OVSS #7.  He captured first place both days and capturing the high overall award.  Results for Saturday and Sunday courtesy of S.O.A.R.

Dayton Area Thermal Soarers (DARTS) hosted their annual Man-on-Man contest - OVSS #6.  Karl Miller of Hammond, IN won on Saturday and Don Harris of Columbus, OH won on Sunday.  Don's win was his 2nd Level V win for his 3rd attempt at the Level V goal.


The LSF/AMA National Soaring Championships took place over 8 days at the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana in July.  Joe Wurts of California returned to the NATS after several years, winning each official event he entered; F3J, Hand Launch, 2 Meter and Unlimited.  Oleg Golovidov of North Carolina kept Joe human by winning the Hand Launch Golf competition.  The RES contest was won by Troy Lawicki of Michigan and James Vanderzyl of Virginia won the Nostalgia competition.  Visit the AMA NATS page and the LSF NATS web pages  for scores, highlights and photos.
