Weather and Wind - Information on current conditions and local area forecasts. This is very useful to determine the best direction to set up a winch if thermal flying, or which slope that will be producing the best wave lift. |

Thermal Flying - CSS members use the Voice of America Park in West Chester, Ohio for fun, practice and competition from hand launch to the unlimited sizes. All electric powered aircraft are permitted at the flying site, and prevail as very popular in most any reasonable weather conditions. Calm, sunny days provide the best lift conditions for all types of sailplanes. Don't be surprised that overcast days can provide considerable buoyancy for thermal flight. Even some windy days have extremely strong thermal activity. Previously, the CSS had access to a parcel of land north of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery property. The Gate of Heaven parcel shall not be used by CSS members as the club has no longer renewed insurance for that site. |

Slope Soaring - When the winds pick up, several nearby "treeless" slopes provide us "flatlanders" in the Midwest some slope soaring fun, which includes "foamie combat" and some "dynamic soaring" when the conditions are just right. |

R/C Scale Aerotowing - This is the venue where gliders and power planes mix well. These beautiful sailplanes are the graceful giants of soaring which several area enthusiasts regularly meet and fly at high altitudes. |
